Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
If you had received the invitation of the Lord to come to his table (Psalm 23:5), how then should we be? The Lord does not overwhelm us with an overload and cause us indigestion. Each one probably reaches a banquet with different responses. Too eager to take in the entire good spread, but feels overwhelmed. We drag our feet there, too lazy to eat. We’re not hungry because we just filled up with some junk food.
He prepared the table. He gently says,”Sit down, sit with me.” The banquet always welcomes the guests with a special honour to luxuriate in an exquisite ambiance along with an incredible display of hospitality. It does not rush. The host prepared for a long sweet reception. No one rushes into a banquet and leaves hurriedly.
He calls us in to soak in his presence. Psalm 46:10 is rich and pregnant with deep meaning. Come, sit down and sit in… don’t stand by the side, not at the rear. Sit down and sit in his holy presence. Be still. The power of stillness opens up a fresh dimension of attentiveness and reception. Adore the King of Kings as he speaks. We’ll get to know him if we honour that time with him. The power of stillness will sweep us into his waves of love. To truly know God will surge us to make him known.
S.O.A.K. in Jesus.
S – Sit down, sit in…still our spirit in silence or sing.
O – Open up our heart as we open his word.
A – Adore him. Be attentive.
K – Know him (like really know him).
We’ll leave the banquet desiring to make him known. And, yes…we will when we harness the power of Psalm 46:10. If you don’t believe me, open your bible and read the second portion of this verse. What does it say?
“King of Kings, Lord of Lords, here we come and soak in your presence. O, my soul, be still… In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
