Psalm 1:3 (ESV)
He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
I looked across my gate at the rugged tree opposite my house. That same tree which stood upright and strong through the decades. Pruned by the City Council over and over again in the many years. During pruning season, it stood a bare trunk with cut branches. No leaves to adorn its beauty. An awkward looking tree. Some seasons the leaves are overspreading providing shade.
Today, I noticed the extended new branches towering in the backdrop of the clear blue sky, overlooking proudly on me. I see its strength and beauty. The many new branches bearing fresh green leaves, blowing gently with such grace. It speaks of a true quiet confidence. The confidence is a result of having successfully weathered through many storms and sun-scorched days.
Today, it remains tall and steady – a testimony of being planted deeply and being nourished. Are we like this tree?
What kind of emotions has covid19 wind blown on us? Are we rooted deeply? Are we nourished well like the tree in Psalm 1:3 – drinking its fill from the everlasting stream, yielding fruits in seasons, and its leaf does not wither. Instead it thrives. These leaves are for food and healing (Ezekiel 47:12).
Be the rugged tree. The grieving world needs spiritual food and healing.
“Heavenly Father, we humble ourselves and keep intact in our roots in your word and spirit. Let us thrive and offer what we receive from you to the grieving world. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
